Aging Is Not One Pathway.
Modern aging research does not point to a single biological switch. A widely cited scientific framework describes 12 interconnected hallmarks of aging: genomic instability, telomere attrition, epigenetic alterations, loss of proteostasis, disabled macroautophagy, deregulated nutrient sensing, mitochondrial dysfunction, cellular senescence, stem cell exhaustion, altered intercellular communication, chronic inflammation and dysbiosis.
These processes influence one another. Changes in one system can affect how others maintain energy, respond to stress and preserve normal cellular function over time.
